Smoakland’s Millennial Activists

Even in a state whose voters just legalized marijuana, Oakland stands out among California cities for the pivot it has made from enforcing the War on Drugs to using cannabis to grow its economy. That transformation from blue-collar port to progressive bastion has been driven in large part by Oakland’s millennial population, who are finding ways to marry an entrepreneurial instinct with a passion for social justice.
